Congratulations to our very own Kharis who has recently been selected as one of the finalists in the Cornwall Today Readers’ Photography competition 2016!
We’re thrilled for her and are very impressed with her photo.
We thought we’d find out a bit more about her winning shot!
Kharis, where was this picture taken and what is it of?
The picture was taken whilst walking through Fowey with my family early this year. It is a view of Polruan across the water, taken through a hole in a wall!
How did this amazing picture come about? Was it chance?
I was looking at the view thinking how pretty Polruan looked across the water and wondering how I could fit the whole view into one photograph. As I pondered the dilemma I continued to walk, and when I stopped I realised I was stood by a lovely white washed garden wall with a hole in it. The view through the hole seemed so perfect to me, so I had to take the picture!
What caught your eye about this shot?
I love the white washed frame around the image. It captures everything I love about Cornwall, sun, sea, pretty houses, white wash and gorgeous views!!
Do you have specialist camera equipment?
Not at all! The image was a total fluke, just a point and click and hope for the best affair! Which hopefully goes to show that magic can be captured if you spot opportunities to grab it!
Now I’ve got this far in the competition I am hoping to go all the way with it! I’d love the opportunity to develop my photographic skills and knowledge further and cannot wait to find another view to grab me so that I can enter next year’s competition! I love the large canvasses in the Cornish Horizons and Looe and Polperro Offices and would love to see one of my images grace those walls one day!
The winner will be based on the number of email votes and will be announced at the end of December. All the entries can be seen in the latest (December) edition of Cornwall Today. To vote (hopefully for Kharis!) just email your chosen month abbreviation (eg. Feb) to firstname.lastname@example.org using READER PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION as the subject.
Good luck Kharis!
