Looe's old cottages and golden sandy beaches.

Looe old town

Situated in East Cornwall is the small holiday town of Looe. Looe with its long golden sandy beach which takes shelter from both Looe Island and the Banjo pier. The beach has been a favourite with tourists for generations. The fine sand and shallow bay has encouraged swimming and paddling since Looe became a tourist destination after the opening of the Brunel Bridge crossing the river Tamar in the late eighteenth century. From those early days of tourism until present times little has changed. Families on holiday in the town still enjoy the same style relaxation that the resort offers.

Looe however, still, remains a fishing port. The sight of the brightly coloured boats of the fishing fleet provide the holiday maker with much to see and as the fishermen go about their daily business of sorting their catch or preparing for the next trip to sea.

The main old town of Looe consisting of Higher Middle and Lower market street takes you back to a bygone age as you wander through the small traffic free streets lined  with old cottages it`s not hard to imagine how life would have been over a century ago. Nowadays the old town is used primarily as a holiday home area mainly because of the problems that traffic free locations have on modern day living.

Looe however still has a thriving community spirit where the tourists and locals enjoy the unique spirit that the town has. For holiday accommodation in Looe or Polperro visit the Looe and Polperro Holidays web site.
