Looe Harbour Quay

Looe Harbour Quay

The harbour quay has traditionally been the focus of attention in Looe when the fishing boats come back to harbour to unload their catches. Even though the fishing fleet is smaller these days it still makes a busy and colourful scene and the ice room facilities have just been extended again. Nestled in the South of Cornwall it is still possible to witness a traditional Cornish trade in Looe.

Unusually Looe harbour is tidal so twice in every twenty four hours it experiences both high tide and low tide - the result is a constantly changing visual scene. This really is quite a unique spectacle and the view really does change on a daily basis. As Looe is in Cornwall, probably the part of the UK with the most agreeable weather, it is easily possible to hire cottages or any other kind of holiday accommodation for that matter, even during peak season. Looe is definitely a part of Corwall that is worth holidaying in. Especially if you're into water or fishing or plain old picturesque seaside village views.

West Looe beach and the harbour mouth

The long harbour arm (the "banjo" pier) protects the east side of the mouth of the Looe river from winter storms and gives safe passage into the harbour for all returning fishing vessels - the west side is naturally protected by the rocky river bank and coast line and across the river can be seen the sandy East Looe beach, this is very popular with families with children for obvious reasons and is why Looe is such a popular holiday destination..
